What subjects do you teach?

I offer lessons in the following subjects:

11 Plus Examinations, Public Speaking, Elocution, Acting, English as a Foreign Language and LAMDA Examinations.

How much does it cost?

My current rates are listed on the Prices section of my website. In light of the current coronavirus pandemic, I understand that a lot of people would like to negotiate on a fee that suits them. If that's the case, no worries. Please feel free to get in touch and we can negotiate on a fee.

Where will lessons be?

Lessons take place at your home. I have a car and I can happily drive to your location. Or we can take lessons online via FaceTime, Skype or Zoom, whichever platform you prefer.

What qualifications do you have?

I have a degree (BA Hons) in English and Drama from The University of Birmingham; I trained as a professional actor at LAMDA (The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art) for 2 years; and I have a 120 hour Certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language. I received my school education at John Hampden Grammar School in High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire.

Are you DBS checked?

Yes I am. The government's Disclosure and Barring Service offer the opportunity to be on what they call the Update Service, meaning that my status can be checked online at any time. This gives parents vital peace of mind that their child is safe and secure when learning with me.

Do you offer any deals?

I understand that some people don't want to commit to a certain number of lessons in advance and would rather pursue classes on a pay-as-you-go basis. However, if you would like to save money then I do offer discounted rates if you commit to ten sessions upfront. Details of this can be found on the Prices section of my website.

Will you come to my house?

Yes, I can travel to your house for classes. Most of my students tend to be in South London or the Surrey area but feel free to contact me and we can work out whether I can travel to you.

Do you offer lessons online?

Yes, I offer lessons online. We can conduct classes on FaceTime, Skype or Zoom - whichever online platform you prefer.

Do you teach adults and children?

Yes, I teach children and adults. I won't be specific but it's fair to say my clients cover a range of ages.

Why do you enjoy tutoring?

I very much enjoy working with people, helping them to achieve their goals and seeing the satisfaction that success can bring them. As a tutor I pride myself on taking a friendly and supportive approach to classes, while also instilling an ethos of hard work, attention to detail and self-belief.

What's your cancellation policy?

I tend to be very relaxed when it comes to arranging classes and changing times if your diary can be somewhat unpredictable. If you need to rearrange or cancel a class just contact me as soon as possible and it'll be fine. However, the only thing that I do stipulate is that in the event of any class being cancelled within 24 hours of the start of the lesson, the full fee for that session will be payable. At this late stage it's almost impossible to replace the work - when I put your lesson in my diary I commit to it and will block out that time at the expense of other work offers which may arise so this policy simply insures me against losing work at the last minute.

Is TBC Tuition an agency?

No, it's not, it's just me. There's no office staff or other people to pay. When you arrange a lesson you'll be contacting me directly and it'll be me who delivers the lesson. I'm a one-man band!

Why is it called TBC Tuition? What does TBC stand for?

Not 'To Be Confirmed' or 'To Be Continued', sadly. It's the initials of my full name: Thomas Benedict Chambers.

Do you teach clients online who live outside of the UK?

Yes I do. With online lessons I can teach anyone anywhere in the world. In the past I have taught clients from as far afield as continental Europe and North America. If lessons need to be at unusual times due to different time zones then that's fine - whatever works for you.
